Sinkhole forms on corner of Koets and Meyer streets near Sasol garage

Be aware! Sinkhole forming in busy street!

Motorists are urged to be aware of a sinkhole that is forming on the corner of Koets Street and Meyer Street, just near the Sasol garage.

This sinkhole may cause traffic for vehicles driving on Koets Street looking to join Meyer Street.
A red drum has been placed near the hole by the Sasol garage staff to prevent motorists from driving into it.

Community members expressed concern over the hole expanding due to the heavy rains.

The Middelburg Observer reached out to the municipality to find out if they are aware of the sinkhole and when it will be fixed.

According to the media spokesperson for the municipality, Lerato Kgomo, the municipality is aware of the opening that occurred on the road surface and their road maintenance team was on site to investigate the cause of the hole.

She added that it is unclear how long the road closure and repair will take, as the investigation is still ongoing and preventative steps will be implemented as an interim measure.
