Residents will have to deal with late refuse collection
Another sign that service delivery in Middelburg is going drastically backwards
Residents must expect late refuse collection over the upcoming festive season.
According to Councillor Elsie Vermooten, residents can expect delays and late collection of green bins.
She has already sent out a letter in which she explained the situation.
“The lease on the refuse trucks expired at the end of November. The new lease will only commence in February 2026. We previously had 12 refuse compactors, and now we only have seven available. Due to this shortage, removal services will unfortunately run late until the new lease agreement is in place.”
Residents are now rightly asking why it took so long to sign a new agreement.
‘There is no money’
It is also speculated that this is another sign of the town’s systematic decline, where the excuse is often ‘there is no money’.
December is a month when garbage removal is already a headache with more garbage, because many people also use it as a time to get rid of items that have been accumulated during the year.
