Christmas Fun Day Buddies needed in and around Middelburg
Thousands of children in Middelburg, Hendrina, and surrounding communities face a quiet Christmas. A Christmas Fun Day on 24 and 25 December aims to change that – but it needs volunteers. Even one hour of your time can help give a child a day they’ll never forget.
While many homes are filled with Christmas lights, gifts, and laughter, thousands of children in our communities will wake up on Christmas Day with very little to celebrate.
This December, one hour can change a child’s day – with your help, we can change worry to wonder!
A Christmas Fun Day, taking place on December 24 and 25 in Middelburg and Hendrina, will bring joy, safety and a sense of belonging to nearly 5 000 vulnerable children. This includes 159 children living in Child and Youth Care Centres, as well as children from Rockdale, Doornkop, Uitkyk, Hendrina, and Mhluzi.
On Christmas Day, children will enjoy jumping castles, slides, games, and fun activities, meet Santa Claus, and share breakfast and lunch together. Transport will be arranged to ensure that every child arrives safely and returns home. But none of this happens without people willing to show up.
Become a Fun Day Buddy
We are urgently looking for volunteers – known as “Fun Day Buddies” – to help make the day safe, calm, and joyful for every child.
As a Fun Day Buddy, you might:
• Walk a child to a jumping castle;
• Help them at mealtimes;
• Watch over play areas;
• Assist near entrances, exits, or toilet areas;
• Simply be the adult they feel safe with.
You don’t need special skills. You don’t need to commit to the whole day. Even a mere 60 minutes makes a difference.
Your presence is the line between chaos and comfort, between worry and wonder. If you’ve ever thought, ‘I wish I could do something meaningful this Christmas’, this is it.
Volunteer lists are being finalised now, and every extra set of hands helps ensure that no child is overlooked.
