Stolen vehicle recovered at Middelburg Toll Plaza
A stolen Nissan NP200 reported missing in Benoni was recovered during a SAPS roadblock at the Middelburg Toll Plaza, leading to the arrest of a 38-year-old Ethiopian national.
A routine SAPS roadblock at the Middelburg Toll Plaza led to the recovery of a stolen vehicle on Monday, 22 December 2025.
Police stopped a grey Nissan NP200 with Gauteng registration plates at around 11:50. After requesting and receiving permission to search the vehicle, officers noticed that the licence disc had expired more than three years ago. Further checks confirmed the vehicle had been reported stolen in Benoni in 2023.
The driver failed to provide valid documentation and was arrested for possession of suspected stolen property. The vehicle was confiscated for further investigation.
The 38-year-old Ethiopian national is expected to appear before the Middelburg Magistrate’s Court soon.
The South African Police Service reiterated its commitment to crime prevention and urged motorists to cooperate during roadblocks, especially during the festive season.
It is just another example of the safety measures taken by the SAPS during this festive season.
