Police stepped up enforcement across Middelburg and surrounding Nkangala communities as part of Operation Safer Festive Season, resulting in multiple arrests and fines between 26 and 29 December.
According to the South African Police Service, six suspects aged between 24 and 52 were arrested in Middelburg and KwaMhlanga. These offences include, armed robbery, dealing in dagga, assault on a police officer, and contraventions of the Immigration Act.

Police also issued five fines for breaches of the Mpumalanga Act and one fine under the National Road Traffic Act.
In a related intelligence-led operation affecting Nkangala, four additional suspects were arrested for drug-related offences, possession of suspected stolen property, and immigration violations.

Acting Provincial Commissioner in Mpumalanga, Zeph Mkhwanazi, praised officers for their efforts, saying the results reflect police’s determination to protect communities during the busy festive period.
For residents, the ongoing operations offer reassurance that crime hotspots remain under close watch. With police confirming that heightened visibility and enforcement will continue in Middelburg and surrounding areas as the festive season comes to an end.
