N11 UPDATE – Kranspoort pass partially reopened
One lane in each direction has reopened on the N11 Kranspoort Pass, outside Middelburg, after a sulphuric acid truck spill. Traffic is moving under stop-and-go control, with delays expected.
Traffic has partially resumed on the N11 Kranspoort Pass following the earlier sulphuric acid truck accident today, 01 January.
According to Reinier Nortje, from Kranspoort Fire & Rescue, one lane in each direction has been opened, allowing controlled traffic flow towards and from Middelburg while clean-up and recovery operations continue.

Emergency services were dispatched at approximately 01:40 on Wednesday, 1 January 2026, after the truck’s hazardous load caused the road to be closed on New Years Day. No driver was found on scene.
Motorists are urged to proceed with extreme caution, obey traffic officials, and expect delays. Recovery operations remain ongoing.
Further updates will follow.
