Pile of Joshua Doore ties dumped in field

An attempt to burn a collection of vintage retail merchandise in a Middelburg field has sparked memories of a famous South African advertising campaign.

A pile of blue Joshua Doore ties has been found dumped in a field between Kanonkop and Dennesig after an attempt to set them on fire failed.
The discovery brings back memories of the famous retail advertisement slogan: ‘You’ve got an uncle in the furniture business, Joshua Doore’.

Launched in the 1970s, the catchy slogan and cheerful ‘uncle’ persona made Joshua Doore a household name for affordable home furniture and appliances.
The furniture store closed in 2016.

It appears the owner tried to set the ties on fire, but was not entirely successful.
