Auto-Grip devices now Isuzu-approved

Auto-Grip® is a Registered Trademark of Grip-Tech (Pty) Ltd, South Africa.

Grip-Tech, the manufacturer of rugged, simple and affordable mechanical anti-theft devices, can now count Isuzu amongst the brands which have granted it approval as a supplier of spare wheel locks for “underslung” spare wheels.

This brings to five the number of local brands which have given Grip-Tech’s Auto-Grip® spare wheel locks the thumbs-up; the others being Ford, Nissan, Mitsubishi and Hyundai.

Their spare wheel locks for Toyota and Volkswagen are popular and effective too. A number of these brands also approve some of the other anti-theft devices (such as gear locks and locking wheel nuts) which Grip-Tech designs and manufactures in its Kyalami factory.

Says Manuel Reis, CEO of Grip-Tech and as a mechanical engineer, the designer of his own products:  “Approval from Isuzu is a big deal for us – as it is with every other brand.

The standards set by any OEM are high and it isn’t just about making a good product from suitable materials – it also embraces being able to maintain consistent quality and being able to supply enough to meet their demands.

There also must be a commitment to follow-up and support in the marketplace. Grip-Tech can meet these requirements and has ‘jumped through the hoops’ put in place to ensure aftermarket products meet the standards of the vehicle.”

Auto-Grip® locks are made entirely from high-grade steels and designed in such a way that overpowering them with normal hand tools is unlikely.

There are multiple keys, replacements for which are only available from Grip-Tech. Simple yet robust with no moving parts, Auto-Grip® spare wheel locks bolt directly onto the wheel so cannot be snapped off, will never jam even if buried in mud, and will never damage the rim.

The locks withstand off-road conditions and are also approved by VESA (Vehicle Security Association of SA).

The theft of spare wheels has become increasingly commonplace, and what makes the theft even more regrettable is that it is inevitably only discovered when the wheel is unexpectedly needed – ergo, an emergency.

The latest Auto-Grip spare wheel lock will be offered as an official aftermarket item and will be available from Isuzu dealers across the sub-continent.

The same GT1020-IZD spare wheel lock will fit all current  Isuzu D-Max Pick-ups and MU-X SUVs, as well as KB-badged ones as far back as 2012.

Auto-Grip products can be purchased from the website, with this link taking Isuzu owners straight to the page they need. Price of the spare wheel lock for KB, D-Max and MU-X is R539.35.
