This was an experiment to determine if a bat strike on a wood door could produce a sound similar to a gunshot -- when heard at a distance. It was not an attempt to exactly replicate OP's door, his bat, and the technique he used. I found (to my surprise) that a bat strike on a wood door can produce a sound similar to a gunshot.
