His grandson, Nkosi Zwelivelile Mandela spoke on behalf of the family.
“Though it is a difficult period for the Mandela family, the rest of the family have been heartened by the overwhelming messages of support from the public.”
He said for the past few days since Madiba was admitted to hospital, the family had been deeply touched by the outpouring of prayers and the overwhelming messages of goodwill from all South Africans and the international community.
“The family is satisfied with the care that Madiba is receiving and share the hope of everyone for Madiba’s recovery. ”
“We are fully cognisant of the fact that millions of people in the country and around the world regard Madiba as their parent and therefore are as concerned about his well-being as we are.”
He extended his gratitude to the South African government, the doctors in charge of Madiba’s health and the ruling party, and further commended the Presidency for its role in keeping the public updated on Mandela’s health.
Performance Monitoring, Evaluation and Administration Minister in the Presidency, Collins Chabane said Cabinet was pleased that Mandela was responding well to treatment.
