Akacia warms up community

MIDRAND - IN order to alleviate some Winter pressures faced by underprivileged women and children, Akacia Healthcare handed over hand-knitted scarves to beneficiaries of the Mayibuye Outreach Programme.

The scarves were created over a three-month period and according to Chris Brassel, product manager at Akacia, people are not be able to donate cash during these tough economic times.

“I believe that asking our staff to knit scarves, which required their time and effort, made this campaign doable and meaningful,” said Brassel.

The Mayibuye Outreach Programme, headed by Elsabe van Eeden, raises funds for children and orphans at the Mayibuye Primary School and after-care facility.

The programme supports the elderly women of the Mayibuye sewing group, who mend clothes to raise funds for a feeding scheme for orphans.

The programme also works closely with social workers to identify children’s needs and provide material for craft projects to generate funds.
