Phenomenal women unite for women’s month
On 24 August Phenomenal Women United hosted their first-ever women's lunch in honour of women's month.
Busi Ngwenya, founder of Phenomenal Women United, explained the concept of the organisation: “I started Phenomenal Women United after a close friend of mine went through a terrible break-up and I realised that everyone was either giving her bad advice or gossiping about her. I just wanted to form an organisation that celebrated women and served as a support structure. So often women try to bring other women down instead of uniting. I wanted to bring women together who could help each other. This is our first event but it is the first of many.”
The guests, who comprised mothers, daughters, sisters and professional women from Midrand, started the event by networking over tea and snacks.
The event then moved on to a series of talks by different speakers who expounded on their own life experiences with issues like divorce, career building and spirituality.
Ngwenya said, “I wanted this event to be different from other events of this nature in that it was more interactive. After each speaker we allowed the audience to give their feedback and ask the speaker questions. We also had a sisterly advice box where people could submit their problems at the beginning of the event and the audience and speakers could offer solutions and advice on the problems.”
The guests certainly seemed to enjoy themselves.
Apart from the discussion section of the programme, they were also treated to a fashion show, showcasing creations by Nomsa Ntenteng of Diva in Style and a delicious lunch and were delighted to receive their goodie bags which included cosmetics and beauty vouchers.
