A birthday for all to remember
KYALAMI - Like many seven year olds, Kyalami's Esami Motsa celebrated her birthday by playing on a jumping castle and having her face painted while enjoying a feast of treats.

What separates Motsa’s birthday from other seven-year-olds’ parties is that she chose to celebrate her day with children less fortunate than herself.
Her mother Wendy Ndwandwe said, “When I asked her what she would like to do for her birthday, she said to me she would like to spend her birthday with children who are not as fortunate as she is. This came about because every Thursday at her school, Beaulieu Preparatory, they have an initiative called ‘Bread for a Buddy’ whereby the pupils are encouraged to bring an extra sandwich to school which is collected and distributed by the school. So that was her inspiration.”
Ndwandwe then called McDonald’s Dieploof to organise a party for more than 100 children.
The Diepkloof McDonald’s invited children from Hlanlefang Daycare, Peggy Daycare, Lulu Daycare and Brilliant Kids Daycare to join Motsa on her special day.
Ndwandwe said, “The children were treated to, among other things, McDonald’s Happy Meals … (and) a variety of jumping castles and slides, face painting, and five Ronald McDonald cakes.”
McDonald’s Diepkloof store manager Alfred Thanyani said the children enjoyed their experience and had fun at the fast food outlet.
Ndwandwe said Motsa enjoyed interacting and playing games with all the children. “Even though communication was a bit of a challenge, she still managed to have fun with them. Esami enjoyed herself so much that I think she will want the same party next year and we hoped more families would be inspired to give back to those less fortunate.
“I’m glad Esami achieved what she set out to achieve.”
