Saturday School achievers praised

KYALAMI - The last day of the Saturday School Project, hosted at Beaulieu College for pupils from Dieplsoot, was filled with high spirits as they were awarded for their diligence.

Beaulieu College has hosted the outreach programme for the past seven years and offers Grade 5 and 6 pupils enrichment in mathematics, science and computers. The pupils are collected in Diepsloot and dropped off at the college, and after they learn from specialist teachers, they enjoy a lunch.

The pupils took the last opportunity to fill their heads with knowledge and celebrate their achievements with their teachers and parents.

The Grade 4 overall achiever was awarded to Olothando Mangesi; the Grade 6 overall achiever was awarded to Busisiwe Malapi; and Grade 5 overall achiever was awarded to Mpho Mokone.

Prince Mhlanga is one of the pupils who attends the Saturday School and he was awarded for his sincere and helpful nature.

Lynette Gray, who handles Beaulieu College’s marketing and communications, described Mhlanga as helpful to others.

“Prince is the type of child who is willing to lend a hand whenever there is a need. If something has to be fetched, he is there. If a pupil has no pen, he is the one to offer first. If the team is short of a player, he is there to fill in. To his teachers he is just absolutely the most caring person,” said Gray.

Mhlanga’s parents were at the school to congratulate him on his award.

Lindiwe Khumalo was awarded the top achiever in mathematics for Grade 6. Her proud mother was there to celebrate with her.
