Portia Mohale, Ward 78, Democratic Alliance

In one sentence, who are you?
My name is Portia Mohale, a dedicated community activist and DA Ward 78 councillor candidate.
What are the biggest issues facing your ward currently?
The biggest challenges facing the ward are unreliable water supply, electricity problems, poor and deteriorating roads, and community safety. These challenges affect residents’ daily lives, businesses and livelihoods, while poor municipal service delivery continues to undermine confidence in local government.
What practical solutions would you prioritise should you be named councillor of your ward?
My priority would be to ensure that residents have a councillor who listens, acts and follows through. I would strengthen communication between residents and the municipality, aggressively escalate unresolved service delivery complaints, and monitor repairs until they are completed. I would prioritise fixing water and electricity infrastructure, repairing roads and potholes, improving street lighting, and working with law enforcement and community structures to improve safety. I would also promote transparent reporting so residents know what is being done, when it will be done and who is responsible.
What is one misconception about you or your party that you would clarify?
A common misconception is that the DA only represents certain communities. I believe good governance should serve every resident, regardless of background. The DA’s focus is on accountable government, quality services, clean administration and creating opportunities for all.
Should your party’s candidate be named mayor, what issue should they address first?
The first priority should be fixing basic service delivery and restoring Johannesburg’s infrastructure, particularly water, electricity, roads, waste management and public safety. Residents deserve a city that works.
