Man arrested for garage robbery

NOORDWYK - A man, who was involved in a business robbery at an Engen garage, was sentenced to five years imprisonment.

Midrand police communications spokesperson Constable Matome Tlamela said the suspect’s car was used in a crime, and he failed to give a satisfactory explanation to the court as to how his vehicle was involved in the robbery that occurred at the Engen garage on Lever Road, Noordwyk on 22 October.

In the incident, five men entered the garage. Two suspects went to the tills and pointed firearms at the cashiers while the other three suspects opened the tills and took the money. The suspects left in a white Mazda. The owner of the vehicle had told the police that the suspects had kidnapped him but he was arrested after giving contradictory accounts of his kidnapping.

Tlamela said, “Midrand Police Station commander Colonel Steven Moodley and the management would like to commend the investigation expertise of Detective Sergeant Dikgale for putting the accused where he belongs.”
