Garden Montessori opens in Blue Hills

BLUE HILLS - The sound of children's joy and laughter is resonating from a new school in Blue Hills.

Garden Montessori opened its doors this year and principal Michelle Wareham is excited about the school which, as the name suggests, encourages the children to explore nature.

On the school’s open day the children were given a soccer lesson and explored the garden which Wareham said helped the children to develop holistically.

The school caters for pupils from the age of one to six and is a member of the South African Montessori Association.

Wareham said, “At Garden Montessori we believe that every child that comes into our care deserves to be treated with respect, love and kindness. We also expect all our children to treat others in this way. By allowing children to work at their own pace and guiding them through the curriculum, we inspire our children to develop independence and a true love of learning.”

She said she intended the school to be a place of love and education. “My partner and I are passionate about children and both share a great love for the Montessori method of education. I am also on the executive committee of the South African Montessori Association. Anyone is able to start a Montessori preschool,” said Wareham.
