Residents complain of poor service delivery

VORNA VALLEY - A RESIDENT of Vorna Valley, Melissa Worman, says the council has failed the people.

Speaking in her personal capacity, and not as a member of the Vorna Valley Residents Association, Worman said, “There is poor service delivery in the Vorna Valley and Kyalami Hills areas. The storm drains and pedestrian walkways need attention. Much more needs to be done to make our area better.”

Over the years, Midrand residents have told the Midrand Reporter that service delivery in the area is appalling.

Ward 112 councillor Leverne Young said residents in Midrand pay less for rates than other residential areas. Young explained that Midrand used to pay agricultural rates but the city council changed their zone to agricultural-residential rates. These rates are lower than rates in residential areas. “The homes in Midrand are zoned as agricultiural-residential areas. I think, because of that, the service delivery rate will not be excellent.”

Councillor Young said once a week she and ward co-ordinator Innocent Sibisi drive around Ward 112 and take note of the things that need to be taken care of, such as dumping and potholes, to name a few.

Councillor Young added the challenge that affects service delivery is that the city council does not have enough manpower and money.

“My mandate is to escalate issues to the [city] council on behalf of Ward 112. Anyone having problems is welcome to contact me. I will do my best to call the city [council] and get them to assist,” Young said.
