Pothole invasion

MIDRAND - Midrand Reporter receives many emails and phonecalls from Midrand residents about roads in poor condition.

The most complaints have come from residents in Kaalfontein, and Ivory Park, along with those in Lever, 13th and 14th roads.

A resident from President Park, Sibongile Khumalo said, “I no longer use my car to work because of how bad the road is. It would be badly damaged.”

According to Johannesburg Roads Agency spokesperson Bertha Peters-Scheepers, the agency was aware of the state of the roads and received similar complaints. “For the next financial year of 2014 to 2015, which begins on 1 July, R272 million has been allocated for the city council’s resurfacing programme.”

Peters-Scheepers said the resurfacing would be a sustainable solution to recurring potholes. “Work is currently in progress for completion by June 2014 on the resurfacing and rehabilitation programme for Region A in the following areas:

  •  Ebony Park Ext 1, 3, 5
  •  Kaalfontein Ext 1 and 8
  •  Carlswald Agricultural Holdings
  •  Vorna Valley
  •  Ivory Park Ext 9,10,12 and 13
  •  Commercia Ext 34
  •  Rabie Ridge Ext 5
  •  Blue Hills Ext 8
