Tabeth Mucheke told Midrand Reporter that the phone, email and fax lines at the school have not worked “since the school was opened in January”.
Mucheke added that pupils claim the teachers are “not qualified” to teach, and that they allegedly “sit in class and seem not to know what to teach”.
Gauteng department of education spokesperson Phumla Sekhonyane said the school did have problems with phone lines.
“The school had technical problems with SIM card carriers in the area which caused the delay in the activation of phone lines. This was communicated with the parents.”
Asked about the allegations that the teaching staff are not qualified, Sekhonyane said, “If anyone has more information about teachers who are at the school but are not qualified to teach, please contact the department of education directly. Corrective measures will be taken immediately.”
