A safe pregnancy

MIDRAND - Life Casternhoff Clinic hosted its annual pregnancy education workshop.

The event was held in commemoration of the annual pregnancy education week which ran from 15 to 23 February. The clinic’s public relations officer, Kgomotso Zimase said the purpose of the pregnancy education week was to strengthen pregnancy education, and stress important issues that promote healthy pregnancy and safe motherhood.

“We had about 60 pregnant mothers of all ages and different stages of pregnancy at the event,” Zimase said. “We use this platform to ensure that pregnant women know that they have to start attending antenatal care as soon they suspect they are pregnant.”

An obstetrician and gynaecologist at the clinic, Dr Alta Maphalala and Dr Diana Ruredzo respectively facilitated the workshop. Maphalala said, “Early antenatal care enables your doctor to exclude and manage existing conditions which can be aggravated by the pregnancy such as hypertension, diabetes, infections and anaemia.

“Early antenatal care for pregnant mothers is important because we are also able to recognise the danger signs in pregnancy and post-delivery at an early stage.”
