Fat Cats Athletic Club has opened entries for its annual Fat Cats 10K Race, taking place at Waterfall City Park at the Mall of Africa on October 11.

The event, dubbed ‘A Race For The Whole Family’, features 10km, 5km, Kitten Miler (1.6km), and Nappy Dash (250m) distances.

Organisers reported receiving more than 500 entries within two weeks of opening. Following participant feedback from the past two years, the club will increase activities at the Kiddies Corner this year.

Fat Cats Athletic Club race director Shamanga Ilunga said it is important to design the event around participant demand rather than organiser preferences.

“Participants make the event. We have always been clear from our inaugural race in 2019 that we would like to put up a show like no other. There are thousands of such races in the country, so we need to give people solid reasons why they should choose ours,” said Ilunga.

“Besides the popular Kitten Miler and Nappy Dash races designed for the little ones, we will have more fun activities for the children. Moms and dads can take time off to do some shopping or enjoy breakfast at the many restaurants around the mall while our dedicated volunteers look after the little ones,” he added.

Activities planned for children include a book reading corner, jumping castles, obstacle courses, and a dance competition.

Ilunga also encouraged corporate teams to participate as part of team-building efforts, noting that market activation spaces are available at an additional cost for companies hosting teams.
