Scamming suspects arrested

Crime intelligence nab scammers.

Midrand police’s crime intelligence wing busted alleged scammers in Midrand on 7 March.

Police received a tip-off from community members about crime activities at a townhouse on Edgar Ave in Noordwyk.

Midrand police social crime prevention co-ordinator Constable Thari Maelane said they called for a backup from sector commanders, crime prevention and security companies. They found three men in the house and a computer, laptops, modems and 3G modems in one of the bedrooms.

One of the men said he was the owner of the laptop. “Upon perusal of the laptop police found documents relating to possible 419 scams,” said Maelane. The man could not prove ownership of the computer equipment.

The men were arrested for possession of suspected stolen property and harmful business practice. The property was confiscated.
