Ria Sebetsa Security makes car parks safer

The security company has employed a security guard to watch over the visitor car park outside Midrand Police Station. This comes after community members raised concern over their safety while parking in the newly-allocated parking area at the police station, on the corner of Bekker Road and Oracle Close, as reported in Midrand Reporter (Police station parking an issue, week ending 7 March).

Midrand Police Station commander Colonel Steven Moodley explained that visitors often congested Oracle Close leading to the police station so the decision was taken by the police, community police forum and Johannesburg Roads Agency for visitors to park in the space on the corner of Bekker Road and Oracle Close during the day. The main parking area can be used by the public at night and for community members with special requirements.

Danny Maduray of Ria Sebetsa said the guard was employed to watch the cars and help the community feel safer, as he would be stationed at the car park during the day until 5pm. Maduray said this service from Ria Sebetsa was part of the security services’ good will to help the community.

Moodley thanked Ria Sebetsa for the service and hoped it would help community members to feel safer when parking at the station.

Maduray said the security company wanted to make all car parks safer – car guards who saw a robbery taking place should contact Ria Sebetsa, who would respond within minutes, and if that information led to an arrest of a suspect, the security company would pay them a reward ranging from R2 500 to R10 000.

He said Ria Sebetsa was working with Midrand police and hoped the reward would give car guards an incentive and to reduce theft out of motor vehicles in Midrand.

Moodley said Midrand police would assist Ria Sebetsa with this project to tell them when arrests and convictions were made.
