Walking to make Midrand hunger free
MIDRAND - Food For Life Midrand put a spring in their step as they marched to spread the word about their mission to make Midrand hunger-free.
The programme is a non-sectarian and non-discriminating organisation that operates worldwide. Food For Life Midrand is a division of Food For Life South Africa, which is affiliated to Food For Life Global – the world’s largest vegetarian food relief programme. It serves millions of cooked meals to hungry people daily and aims to break down social barriers.

The organisers and volunteers hosted a 5km walk recently, which started and ended at Carlswald Lifestyle Shopping Centre to raise awareness for the programme. The volunteers sang and danced as they walked, which created a stir among onlookers and they handed out nuts and pamphlets on behalf of the Food For Life in, Midrand.
According to the organisation, the aim of the public awareness campaign was make people get involved in the mission to to make Midrand a hunger-free zone.
Chairperson of Food For Life Midrand Nrsinga Dasa led the walk, which saw a good turn-out of volunteers and a number of on-lookers.
He welcomed anyone to join the mission to make Midrand hunger-free. “It all starts with a small baby steps. Rome was not built in a day. It takes months and years to achieve a goal. We are dedicated to helping our children live a healthy, well balanced and joyful life. This starts with showing them someone cares and loves them,” he said.
He believes the programme could help prevent social ills by feeding the hungry.
