Youth League owes a convention centre millions of rands

According to reports, the ANC Youth League owes Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand R4million.

The convention centre has asked the court to place the youth league under final liquidation or provisionally sequestrate it. Reports state that Atterbell Investments claims that the youth league owes them R4million for four events at the centre in June 2011. The four events were a cocktail function, ANC Youth Leagues’s national congress, a report back function and backroom function.

In court papers Atterbell Investments said the youth league is, “Truly and lawfully indebted to the convention centre to the amount of R4 814 553.60 plus interest calculated from approximately mid June 2011 to date of payment, plus legal costs.”

In a statement the youth league said it was aware of the claim. “The National Task Team will be sending representatives on 29 April to meet with the representatives of Atterbell Investments and the chief executive officer of Gallagher Estate Adolf Venter to seek to resolve the matter amicable.”

The default judgement was handed down in September 2011.

In March another liquidation case against the youth league was settled out of court. The youth league left a company with an outstanding payment of R15million after the 2008 national conference in the Free State in 2008.
