Four voting districts still to go as ANC leads Ward 80 ballot
Johannes Sydney Monaise has taken the lead after the first voting station was counted in Ward 80, with ActionSA and the EFF trailing.
The African National Congress (ANC) has taken an early lead in Midrand’s Ward 80, with its candidate, Johannes Sydney Monaise, topping the preliminary results after the first voting station was counted.
However, with four of the ward’s five voting stations still to be counted, the results remain preliminary, with ActionSA and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) also featuring among the leading candidates.
According to partial results released by the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) at approximately 13:26, 697 votes had been counted from one voting station, Kanana.

Monaise had secured 229 votes, representing 32.86% of the votes counted, placing him in first position. ActionSA candidate Norman Marala is in second place with 123 votes (17.65%), followed by EFF candidate Matome William Raholane with 118 votes (16.93%).
Counting under way
The ANC won Ward 80 in the 2021 local government elections and is seeking to retain the ward. With only one of the five voting districts counted, the remaining results will determine how the candidates and parties fare in the race for the ward councillor position.
The IEC is continuing to release results as the counting process progresses.
