Groenvoer Country Market hosts Mother’s Day show with great gifts for mothers

MIDRAND - Families turned up to sample Mother's Day goodies, see animal shows and enjoy other products at Groenvoer Mother's Day Country Market.

Guest of honour for the Mother’s Day theme, DA Ward 93 councillor Annette Deppe said mothers are important in all families. “As a wife and mother of two I know how important a woman’s role is. We need to honour women.”

Deppe mentioned the challenges that faced the Midrand community. “Service delivery at times takes a slow route because municipalities are financially challenged and under-resourced. Region A officials work hard with the limited resources they have.”

The councillor told market visitors that for them to see effective change in Midrand, they must go and vote.

One of the organisers of the event, Cathy Khoury-Prinsloo encouraged a visit to each stand to sample or learn about the goodies on display. “We have Mother’s Day gifts from food, arts, crafts, herbs and book stalls.”

Charities such as Midrand SPCA had books and products on display, and the Canine Academy hosted a dog-obedience show.

Charlene Kruger from the academy explained their role, “[The academy] trains family pets, goes to hospitals to visit patients on a therapy programme, and rehabilitate and rescue dogs. Today we are here to demonstrate to families or dog lovers how to teach dogs to obey their owners and how to give animals the best care.”

Zara Ambrosie was also at the market selling One Direction bags and stickers at the market. “I am selling the bags and stickers to try and raise money for charity. All the money goes to charities such as the SPCA.”

Children enjoyed jumping castles and pony rides.
