Mothers honoured for their love and dedication
MIDRAND - Lemongroove invited 30 women over 60 years of age to a Mother's Day breakfast on 9 May.
Programme director Nombulelo Buku-Thabane said the celebration was held to honour mothers who are still alive and those who passed away. “Mothers influence society in a big way. We need to love and show appreciation for mothers and mother figures in our lives,” she said.
Buku-Thabane pointed out that many children in South Africa have lost their mothers. She said, “A lot of children need a mothers’ love and some of you have taken the role to love and care for children you did not bear. That is a mother’s love.”
Event organisers Daphne Obos and her daughter Casey Obos made sure that the ladies had all they needed to make their day enjoyable. Daphne Obos said, “As part of our social responsibility, we thought it would be great to treat moms from three churches from Midrand and Rabie Ridge. Some of the ladies may not be with their children on Mothers’ Day to treat them, so today we are honouring all mothers.”
Father Enos Mhlongo prayed and thanked God for the role mothers, living and deceased, who played roles in the lives of all the people in our society. He also said, “Single mothers, those without a place to stay and mothers who may feel overwhelmed by their family responsibilities, must know that they are not alone; society appreciates all their sacrifices.”
Takani Thiba gave a special rendition to reassure mothers present at the event of their value. “You are beautiful women and you must be cherished. All the things you have done for your families have been done out of love. May God honour your selflessness.”
Thiba added that at times mothers are taken for granted. “If your mother is still alive, tell her how much you appreciate and love her, sometimes we wait until our mothers die and realise we never told them how impritant they are to us,” she said.
