ANC Youth League taken to court

MIDRAND - Atterbell Investments, a company that hosted ANC youth league events at Gallager Estate Convention Centre in Midrand, is taking the youth league to court.

The company went to the High Court in Johannesburg on 19 May over R4 million unpaid bills owed to it by the youth league. The ANC youth league reportedly owes Atterbell Investments millions for four events held at Gallagher Estate Convention Centre in June 2011. In April 2014 Atterbell Investments asked the court to place the youth league under final liquidation or provisionally sequestrate it.

ANC Youth League spokesperson Bandile Masuku said, “The ANC youth league cannot comment on the issue at the moment. We will hear from court, follow the due processes and release a statement.”

Asked about allegations that the youth league also owes a Durban restaurant owner R83 000 for two parties held on 5 and 6 April, Masuku said, “The youth league can not disclose or comment on all its debtors in public. Those who run to the media with bills are not following the right procedure.”

In March 2014, another liquidation case against the youth league was settled out of court for R15 million after the 2008 national conference in the Free State in 2008. It is reported that a hotel trading as Palanquin Hospitality management in Bloemfontein also claimed R1.5 million from the youth league for accommodating delegates.
