A road among the potholes
MIDRAND - Two weeks after Johannesburg Roads Agency's (JRA) 30 April deadline to fix all potholes in Region A passed, many Midrand residents are still unhappy.
Residents, Melinda James and Linda Hinrichsen said a road they used frequently was a nightmare. James said, “For months we have waited for potholes to be fixed on Richard’s Drive but nothing has been done.” Hinrichsen added, “Richards Drive is so bad we no longer know where to drive. When will the potholes be fixed?”
Another resident, Riekie Greef said, “Richards Drive is a which pothole to dodge road. It is an absolute disaster. Thanks for the patience of fellow road users we have all managed to somehow give way to each other and drive on.”
Rachael Subramoney said, “Potholes on the corner of 1st Road, Van Heeden Road and Smuts Drive should be repaired quickly. We are constantly trying to avoid potholes and end up in the lane of oncoming traffic. This is getting very dangerous.”
However, Vorna Valley Residents Association spokesperson, Sue Klingenberg said one road had been fixed. “Harry Galaun was fixed by the roads agency, but the potholes that were re-patched are so bumpy. We have logged calls but no attention has been given to roads such as Anton Hartman Street, Berger Street and Greig Street.”
A Facebook user, Malavi Mapile, wrote on Midrand Reporter’s Facebook that, “There is an ultra-deep mine growing in Le Roux Road. At Bekker Street one can be right by saying there is a road in our potholes instead of there are potholes in our road.”
Johannesburg Roads Agency spokesperson for Region A, Bertha Peters-Scheepers said, “Potholes in some of the roads have been completely fixed such as Harry Gaulan, Garden Road, Walton Road, Old Pretoria Road and many more.”
Speaking about the 30 April deadline for potholes, Peters-Scheepers said repairs were still on-going. “The agency is more than 90 percent complete on the flood damage and teams are continuing with repairs to the final outstanding items. Bridges and culverts are all in progress and their finalisation ranges from two to six months.”
To report potholes, faulty traffic signals, storm water, manhole and general issues, download JRA’s Find&Fix application. The application is available on Google Play store and Windows App store.
