Bribery does not pay

KYALAMI - Midrand police's head of visible policing, Colonel David Mahloromela, arrested a 32-year-old man for trying to bribe him with R40 while doing his job in Kyalami.

Midrand police communications officer Matome Tlamela said, “According to the complaint, on 13 May at 5.05pm, Mahloromela was performing crime prevention

duties when he stopped a Toyota truck with a driver and passenger. He searched the occupants for illegal firearms and substances, and then asked the passenger, who was speaking a foreign language, for a passport.”

She said the suspect failed to produce a passport, and she was arrested for being an illegal immigrant.

Tlamela said the driver then tried to bribe Mahloromela with R40 and asked the police to release the suspect.

“The police placed the man under arrest immediately on bribery charges,” she said.
