Midrand police Constable Matome Tlamela said constables Lekgodi and Mciteka spotted a white Nissan X-Trail which matched the description of a vehicle involved in an alleged house robbery in Kyalami and gave chase.
“Near Dischem on Old Pretoria Road, the [driver] started driving recklessly and Constable Lekgodi fired two shots at the car while it was… on the gravel,” said Tlamela.
She said the reckless driving continued and the driver lost control of the vehicle near Jukskei River bridge on Old Pretoria Road. The occupants fled the vehicle. One man was arrested and stolen property was recovered.
Tlamela said no one was injured during the shooting.
Ria Sebetsa Security Services managing director Danny Maduray thanked the constables for their bravery and determination in chasing the suspects and making the arrest after a “a high-speed pursuit”.
