Council deny links to email

MIDRAND - The National Council of SPCA's has disassociated itself from an email circulating on behalf of the organisation.

In a statement the council said, “The contents of an email claiming that by going to click on a link on a particular website, animals at the SPCA will be helped are untrue. The email is in no way connected with the SPCA and was not initiated by the organisation.”

“The council has frequently been asked to adopt a system similar to America, where people can click on a link to benefit animals, but we examined it and believe that the public should be told upfront that their emal addresses will be captured and sold for commercial purposes,” the statement read.

The council stated that “SPCAs countrywide need support but there are no quick fixes. If anyone wishes to support animals at SPCAs by donating food, they can take the donation to a local SPCA.”

The SPCA said the only true issue in the email is that the SPCA supports BarkingMad website which asks residents to buy and donate pet food for animal welfare organisations.

Tracy Mcquarrie posted that, “BarkingMad are not aware of who created the link, it was not us. Unfortunately someone has taken an international email for the animal rescue site and added our details to this.

Speaking to the Midrand Reporter, marketing director of Champion PetFoods, Grant Walliser, said, “We have not encountered the email yet but we will be on the look out for it and tell our clients about it.”
