Midrand girl raped, video circulates
RABIE RIDGE - According to reports a 12-year-old girl from Rabie Ridge was raped by an man in his home in Midrand.
The girl and two school friends, a boy and a girl allegedly smoked dagga at the man’s home, and one of the friends suggested that she sleep with the man or her parents would be told she smoked dagga. The girl was forced into sleeping with the suspect and the boy recorded the whole ordeal on his cellphone while the other girl watched.
It is reported that the victim kept silent about the ordeal for six days until her aunt was sent a link of the video. A friend of the family identified the alleged rapist on video and handed the evidence to the police.
Provincial police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini confirmed that a two-minute rape video had circulated in Midrand this week.
“Arrests were made and the alleged rapist and the 16-year-old boy appeared at the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on 23 May,” said Dlamini. “The adult suspect was released on bail and the teenager released into the care of his parents. I cannot comment more on the matter as the case has been brought to court.”
Ward 80 councillor, Queen Sikweqa said, “I am not aware of the issue, but rape victims can go to the victim empowerment office at Rabie Ridge police station to report rape cases and get help.”
Rabie Ridge police spokesperson, Constable Jacob Nhlongo said rape victims could report cases at the police station. “We have a trauma centre, like all police stations. Do not let rape cases go without being reported.”
