Complainant helps to convict suspects

MIDRAND - Two suspects were sentenced to 15 years' imprisonment each after robbing a man at gunpoint and leaving him tied up in the bushes.

Midrand police communications officer, Constable Matome Tlamela said, “The complainant was robbed of his blackberry cellphone, watch and R150 at gunpoint in Midrand, and was left in the bushes by the suspects.”

She said after the man freed himself he followed the direction of the suspects which led him to Ivory Park. There, the complainant met members of the community policing forum and gave them a description of the two suspects.

“The suspects were traced and arrested on 20 November last year and were found in possession of a firearm [which is thought to be the firearm they used when robbing the complainant] and were detained,” said Tlamela.

She said in May the suspects received sentencing.

The stolen goods were never recovered.
