Farewell to a man who served well

IVORY PARK - Ivory Park police bade farewell to one of its long-serving officers.

Members from police stations around Midrand gathered together at Kempton Park Civic Centre at a farewell function fpr Ivory Park station commander. Brigader Lemogang Moses Nonyane retired on 31 May after 34 years of service.

Speaking to Midrand Reporter, retired Brigadier Nonyane said he will miss the relationship Ivory Police Station had with the community. “Police and the community interacted well. As in any department, police do not have a lot of resources, but the community worked with us and we curbed crime together,” he said.

“I will miss the members of the SA police I worked with over the years, but even though I am not an active police officer, they will still be able to reach me.

“I look forward to the next phase of my life. I am a tennis player and tennis coach with the SA police teams. I will also continue my work with the Lutheran church in Tembisa.”

Major General Stian Nyalungu from Pretoria West SA Police College applauded the work done by Nonyane. He said, “Brigadier Nonyane joined the police service in 1979 in Lydenburg, Mpumalanga. He also worked at Tembisa Police Station for a long time.”

Ivory Park police spokesperson Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela said, “Nonyane became brigadier in 2000. He has contributed a lot to the station and community of Ivory Park.”
