Fake police case ends in arrest

MIDRAND - Two men (23) were arrested for perjury after they reported a false hijacking case at Midrand police.

Midrand police communications officer Constable Matome Tlamela said the suspects alleged they were hijacked by two unknown men while they were driving their employer’s vehicle at 2.30am on 8 June.

However, the next day the two men returned to Midrand Police Station to confess they reported a false case.

“The vehicle was not hijacked, the driver failed to apply brakes and it hit the tree and caught fire. The vehicle was burned out during the accident,” said Tlamela.

She said both suspects were arrested on charges of perjury.
