Security cars to be searched

MIDRAND - Police warned against security company officers from running illegal taxi services.

Midrand police communication officer, Constable Matome Tlamela said, “It has come to the attention of the police that security guards are running an illegal taxi association with security company vehicles, especially during the night.”

She said security company vehicles would be monitored, stopped and searched by the police due to a concern that suspects and stolen goods were being transported by the vehicles.

“A security officer shot and killed a man with his service firearm over a dispute of payment after the man reached his destination recently,” said Tlamela.

“The security officer handed himself over to the police two days after he committed the murder. The man has appeared at Alexandra court facing charges of murder,” said Tlamela.

She said security companies were advised to fit in trackers or automatic vehicle location installation systems in their vehicles, to monitor the vehicles while their members were on duty.
