Don’t open door to strangers.

IVORY PARK - Police in Ivory Park are appealing to community members to first check and identify who is knocking on their doors before opening.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela said, “Many of the house robberies in the area are taking place during the day. Suspects are no longer only breaking in, they knock and are let in by unsuspecting residents.”

She said in one incident a tavern owner from Ivory Park Extension 15 was robbed after suspects knocked at her kitchen door. The owner was robbed of R28 000 at gunpoint after answering the door. The suspects pretended they want to buy beer.

One of the suspects immediately pulled out a firearm and demanded money. The suspects took the money and left.

Police are appealing to residents to not keep huge amounts of money in their homes or business premises as criminals may be aware of this.
