The boys will be attending a Global Young Leader conference. The conference, which will be hosted in Washington D.C and New York City, aims to develop leadership skills in pupils from nations around the globe.
During the conference many pupils from different cultural backgrounds will engage in various group activities and workshops.
Phiri said they will get a chance to exchange ideas with other young people and look into solutions for current issues affecting the world.
Ngxanga said he was excited about the trip. “This is an opportunity that many young people do not have,” he said.
Speaking about their future, Phiri said he wants to be a mechanical engineer while Ngxanga will venture into finance.
A teacher at the school, Michael Molefe said this is the third trip undertaken by Midrand High School pupils. He added, “The school is proud of the boys and they will learn about leadership; they will then share the information with other pupils upon their return.”
The pupils’ parents said they were proud of their sons. Carrol Phiri, Kabelo’s father said, “It is any parent’s dream to see such opportunities happen for their child.”
Caroline Ngxanga, Modise’s mother said, “My son is having a chance to go overseas, I have not gone overseas, so I am excited for him.”
