The man will appear in the Alexander Magistrate’s court again on 31 July. His R2 000 bail was reportedly extended.
The reason for the postponement is unclear. The case was previously postponed after the investigating officer failed to collect the ballistics report.
The incident took place during a gun expo at Gallagher Convention Centre in April.
10am, 17 July:
The father who shot his son in the upper abdomen at Gallagher Convention Centre on 28 April will make his third court appearance on 17 July.
According to Midrand police communication officer Constable Matome Tlamela, the man said the gun went off by accident while in a toilet cubicle at the convention centre on 28 April. The boy was rushed to hospital and was said to be recovering well at the time.
The case was postponed on 3 July in the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court in order for the investigating officer to collect the ballistics report. The case will be brought before the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court again on 17 July.
The defence said the case should be struck off the court roll as the man had the right to a speedy trial and did not believe the state would be ready with their case by the next court appearance. However, the magistrate postponed the case to 17 July.
