Police crack down on thieves

MAYIBUYE - Three people were arrested for suspected stolen property in Mayibuye.

On 15 July a 38-year-old scrapyard owner and his two employees were arrested by Ekurhuleni Metro police. The suspects were charged at Rabie Ridge Police Station for possession of suspected stolen property.

An Ekurhuleni Metro police crime prevention task team arrested the suspects after receiving information from EMPD Peace Corps stationed in Phomolong.

Metro police Chief Superintendent Wilfred Kgasago said, “We were informed that a scrapyard in Tembisa had huge quantities of aluminium and copper suspected to have been stolen. Approximately 200kg of various metal materials were seized.”

Crime prevention members monitored the scrapyard from 9am before making an arrest at noon. Police confiscated hawker stalls, a large quantity of medical forceps, 128kg of copper, numerous massive screws and bolts used on railway-sleepers, and water taps.

The suspects will appear in Tembisa Magistrate’s Court soon.
