Man convicted to 15 years in prison

MIDRAND - A man was sentenced to 15 years in prison for attempted murder, carjacking, and possession of a hijacked vehicle.

Midrand police spokesperson Constable Matome Tlamela said, “Midrand Police Station commander, Colonel Steven Moodley and the station management commend the good work of officers who effected the arrest, Constable Enock Mnisi, Constable Goodgirl Mhlanga and detective Sergeant Aubrey Makgoshing.”

Tlamela explained that Mnisi and his team spotted a suspicious vehicle while patrolling in Kyalami in December last year.

When police tried to stop the vehicle, the driver sped away.

“The police gave chase, [and]… the suspects… started to shoot at the police. The police retaliated and shot one of the tyres and managed to arrest one of the suspects who was still in the car,” she said.

The suspect was found guilty of carjacking, attempted murder and possession of a hijacked vehicle.
