Quick police response leads to suspect’s arrest

MIDRAND - A suspect appeared in court on charges of common robbery.

Midrand police spokesperson Matome Tlamela said on 23 August police arrested a 25-year-old man for common robbery at the corner of Market Street and Old Pretoria Road at Halfway House.

“According to the complainant, he was dropping off a friend on that road when an unknown man started swearing at him and slapped him in the face,” said Tlamela.

“The complainant was surprised by this and suddenly the suspect pulled off the complainant’s jersey which had a cellphone in the pocket and got into a waiting red taxi that had been behind them, and the taxi drove off.”

The police were alerted and they followed the taxi and stopped it. The complainant pointed out the suspect who was immediately arrested.
