More concerns about Noordwyk Secondary

NOORDWYK - Agnes Mkhwanazi has told Midrand Reporter that her daughter's school performance has dropped since moving to Noordwyk Secondary School.

“I moved her from another school, where she did well, in January. Since then her average has been 20 percent. The school principal has also tendered his resignation, there is confusion at that school,” Mkhwanazi alleged.

“I am worried that my daughter will fail her matric next year if her reports continue like this. The Department of Education has to intervene, things have gone on for too long.”

Mkhwanazi is not the first parent to complain of Noordwyk Secondary School. Midrand Reporter has received many complaints since January, and written stories that carry similar concerns about the quality of education, pupils’ lack of discipline and rumours of principal changes.

Asked about Mkhwanazi’s concerns, Department of Education spokesperson, Phumla Sekhonyane, said the department was aware of the complaints since the school was officially opened in January 2014.

“The variety of complaints prompted the department to take action against the previous principal who was subsequently relieved of his duties in May. An acting principal has since been appointed until the appointment of the permanent principal is finalised,”she said.

“The school is operating as normal and no complaints have been received through the school so far, the department is closely monitoring the developments at the school.”

The department did not confirm whether it is true that the current acting principal has tendered his resignation.
