Provincial police spokesperson Colonel lungelo Dlamini said, “It is suspected that [the girl] was strangled and sexually molested before her death. Police are waiting for postmortem results to determine the cause of her death.”
Dlamini added that the child was found by a community member in open veld in Phomolong dressed in only a vest.
He said no arrests have been made.
“Anyone with information please call Rabie Ridge police.”
The child was reported missing on 31 August and a murder case has been opened.
