Midrand residents voice Oscar opinions
MIDRAND - Midrand's Vorna Valley Spar shopping centre customers and staff had a few things to say about Judge Thokozile Masipa's ruling in the Oscar Pistorius trial on the morning of 12 September.
They all took the time to voice their opinions.
“I don’t think he should have gone to trial,”said Evens Khumbuzo, a security guard at the shopping centre, “For someone in his condition, a life in prison will be difficult.”
“The justice system is making it easy for women to be abused without any repercussions for men. The judge was lenient on him,” said Charmaine Ramkissoon.
“Nobody should be above the law. The ruling proves that celebrities and the rich are favoured. Fame should not [be a] factor when you’re being given a penalty,” said Molly Suntheran.
Malcolm Frank said, “There should be a retrial. He got away with it and it isn’t fair to her (Reeva Steenkamp) and family.”
Simangele Loni was more forgiving, “He acted without thinking. I don’t think it was his intention to kill her. We all do things without thinking. He definitely deserves a second chance.”
