Hijacking is rife
IVORY PARK - Police Station has received a lot of hijacking reports in the recent months.
The station’s spokesperson Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela, said the station’s management is appealing to the community to ensure their vehicles are safely locked at all times and are parked in a safe place. “We are receiving car hijacking reports where residents fall victim to hijacking during the day and night. We are appealing to residents who have information on the hijackers to contact the police station,” she said.
Safety precautions to take to reduce chances of being hijacked:
- Lock all doors and shut windows before driving off
- Constantly check your rearview mirror and side view mirrors for any suspicious activity. If you think you are being followed, drive to a police station or stop police you may notice along the way.
- Never leave your keys in the ignition when you get out of the vehicle to open the gate
- Don’t wait in your car when waiting to pick up someone. Either get out of the car and lock it or drive around the block until the person you are waiting for arrives.
- Never pick up hitch-hikers.
- Always use alternate routes. Don’t drive home using the same route as criminals could be watching your movements and lifestyle
patterns.
q Don’t travel alone at night.
