Owners throw dog over fence to avoid costs

MIDRAND - A four-year-old dog was thrown over the fence of a residential area in Westonaria when the owners found out his medical bill was R3 000.

This is according to Kitty and Puppy Haven, based in President Park, who rescued the dog.

A statement from the sanctuary said, “Duncan is one of our new rescues this week. He is a cross between a chinese crested dog and a maltese.” The home described his condition when found as shocking and appalling.

“He was thrown over one of our rescuer’s wall on the morning of 13 October and after clinical observation, it is obvious why,” they said. During the medical analysis, they found he had a heart arrythmia (an irregular heartbeat) and tumours on his chest and neck, which needed to be removed.

Duncan was found malnourished and with sunburn sores all over his lower back. However, the home assured all concerned that Duncan would be given the best medical care.

“At the moment he is not available for viewing as we need to find out if he has any other illnesses,” said Dominique Sparck from the home. “He also won’t be available for adoption for a long time, as he has a host of medical procedures to go through.”

Sparck said the home welcomed any financial donations for Duncan.
